Christmas Conversation

Monday, September 01, 2008

Today is first day of the month whose last three letters ends with 'ber'. I don't know about the rest of the world, but where I'm from, it also marks the countdown towards one of the world's most joyous occasion. It marks the Christmas countdown.

Earlier today on national early morning television, a show showcased trees, décors, tips – shopping tips, and their guest's “definition” for the season's celebration. I wasn't able to catch that particular guest's definition for the season and reasons for merry gift giving to write down a verbatim quote. But, I've heard enough to say that sadly, that guest is way off tangent from the real reason for the season.

That television air time triggered a lot of questions in my head that I feel people should also be asking about. Not that I know for sure that the answer to these questions can cure cancer or make poverty history but maybe it could. Maybe it would, if we only care to look for the answer.

The questions running in my head is nothing new but I know my own analysis, argument, and answer won't be enough to persuade most of the circles I'm in to see things in the same light. Add to that the fact that I am virtually a nobody. Despite that, I do hope and want people to see things in my point of view – but I don't think that will happen any time soon. So, I figure why not know other people's point of view and help those who want gain a better understanding of the world around them.

I have several questions but I'd like to talk about one. I figure we can make this into a project.

This is going to be an conversation experiment, a conversation project, and this is going to be our conversation.

You may be asking right now: 'What is the question?' Here it goes:

“What is the real reason of the Christmas season?”

If you are interested to join in a blog conversation please answer the question in your blog. And in order to facilitate tracking conversations, please follow some guidelines below:

  1. Title your blog-post-response to the question with “Christmas Conversation – The Reason”
  2. Tag your post “christmas conversation”
  3. Somewhere in your post, please direct or link this post – the “conversation starter” post. This will enable me and readers to follow conversations around the blogosphere.

You may opt to just write away your thoughts in the comment form but I'll attempt to put some measures later to prevent very long comments. This to ensure comments stays just a comment – a short one – and comments that qualify as a post becomes an actual blog post.

In the interest of disclosure, I would like to disclose that I am an evangelical Christian. And the one major goal for this project is to tell the world of what I believe to be the real reason for the season.

That's it. I hope you will contribute to this little conversation project. Hope to receive trackbacks from your response to the question.
